SEED PROGRAMS INTERNATIONAL

SPI was founded in 1998 by John Batcha. John was aware that large quantities of high-quality vegetable seed were being thrown away each year due to overproduction or small decreases in germination rate. He knew that communities and families around the world struggle to access quality seed due to financial and geographic constraints. John used these insights to create SPI and connect these communities with seed that would otherwise be wasted.
Throughout our 25 years of operation, SPI has worked closely with seed companies and communities struggling with hunger. We coordinate with seed companies and work collaboratively with partner organizations to implement programs that improve global food security through vegetable production. We have evolved our strategy to connect our program partners with local seed sources in order to reduce dependency on aid.
