Our Approach

Seed Programs works with our network of partners to receive large quantities of high-quality vegetable seed and then places the seed with local organizations facilitating gardening programs throughout the world. We also work with local seed companies in international markets to facilitate access to local seed and support future access to localized markets and food systems, strengthening local and regional seed supply chains. Seed Programs identifies and helps provide appropriate training, gardening tools and resources to organizations in the field completing the work. We work with local communities to build sustainable and equitable livelihoods, food autonomy, and ecological resilience. We honor the wisdom and networks that have historically created food security and ecological resilience.

ADVANTAGES OF OUR APPROACH

  •

We don’t send expensive staff and trainers to live or teach thousands of miles away from our headquarters. Instead, we believe in the power of local leadership and provide seeds and expertise as means to foster that leadership.

  •

Seed programs are a cost effective way to  maximize  limited funds available to help those in need – by providing seeds instead of costly shipments of bulk food, costs are reduced and outcomes are more sustainable.

  •

Over the years, Seed Programs has accumulated the necessary knowledge, partnership network, and specialized associates to support people of all ages in communities large and small in tropical, temperate, as well as cool climates.

  •

Our programs are designed to provide long-term solutions to the program participants to elevate them out of poverty. Once skills are learned, they can be used for a lifetime.
