Vegetable gardening and farming have the power to make a difference in millions of lives. More people suffer from hunger and malnutrition than the population of the US, Canada, and the EU combined. 85% of the hungry are women and children. Ironically, two-thirds of hungry families are small farmers by trade, caught in a vacuum of resources needed to even grow their own food. Today, more than ever before, human caring and effort can end this needless suffering.
WHAT'S IN THE BOX?
Seed Programs International's Garden in a Box program allows you to invest in the future of the world's hungry.
Our typical smallest-size shipment is a box of about 1400 packets of non-GMO seed, 100 each of 14 or fewer types and varieties of vegetable.
This box is 14 by 16 by 24 inches in size.
The weight of a carton with 1400 packets is about 22 pounds (10 kg.).
What is so amazing, beautiful, and powerful about seed, is that this box, with the right support and effort by gardeners and those helping them, will grow about five tons of food for the people in the world who are suffering most from malnutrition, hunger, and related disease. You can imagine the cost of any other method of getting five tons of food to hungry people. Moving this much fresh, nutritious produce to isolated parts of the world would be impossible any other way.
Please donate and provide a donation to help us fill this box today. With your $500 donation, we can secure this seed, use our six-step process to ensure the seed is good seed, and get it into this box and into the hands of people on the ground in one of the 70 countries where we work. But we only ask that you consider a gift of a size that's meaningful and significant to you, whether that's $10, $100, or $1000.
For every Garden in a Box funded by an individual, congregation, workplace, or organization, we'll keep you connected with information documenting your impact on hunger in the world. Just enter "Garden in a Box" in the Comments space at our secure donation site. Don't prefer online giving? Checks payable to "SPI" are always welcomed at our address, PO Box 9163, Asheville, NC 28815.
Most importantly, you won't just give a handout. You'll also give the most important gift of all: self-sufficiency. Our partners are using your seed donation to teach gardening skills, improve soils, and increase water access. People who have no options to better their family’s health now can make their own way to a better future.
