Our Goal is to Build the Capacity of Local Organizations

That’s why we always partner with local leaders for all of our projects.

We know that communities know their local context better than we ever could. Together, we work with our implementing partners to identify challenges and determine solutions that are locally-led and culturally-appropriate. This approach enables resiliency and sustainable success.

Interested in Applying?

We are grateful that you have found our work. If you are applying for and/or inquiring about a grant, please take note of the following:

  • Before applying for a grant, please review our Programmatic Focus page. While we fund a large variety of programs including direct farmer outreach, our primary focuses are; Women in agriculture, Crisis Recovery, School Gardens, and Charitable Gardens (USA).
  • Due to the large volume of funding requests we receive, we are unable to fund all proposals.
  • If your proposal is considered for funding, you will receive an email from one of our staff members. If you do not receive an email from us, you may reapply the following planting season.
  • We review proposals on a rolling basis, but in general we announce funding decisions in February/March and July/August. We suggest you apply 2-5 months in advance of your suggested program start date.
  • While our work is relationship focused, our grants program operates on a year to year basis. This means that we only commit to funding an organization one year at a time. When appropriate, we fund the same organization multiple years in a row. This is based on good relationships and demonstrated impact that aligns with our mission. However, even with multi-year grant recipients, we do not guarantee future funding.
  • We are a collaborative, people-focused organization that likes to see sustainability! In addition to frequently working with organizations for more than one granting period, we also help organizations that have received funding develop organizational capacity. This can look like; being a resource for future grant writing endeavors, connecting partners with other funders, suggesting avenues for self-sufficiency after SPI funding, and more. Please consider demonstrating sustainability in your grant application.
